FYA Meeting Tomorrow 9/16
 

The next Foster Youth Alliance is scheduled for tomorrow Friday September 16th from 9:30 until 11:30.

Location: Alameda County ILSP 2647 International Blvd. Ste.312

Content: At this meeting the discussion about Transition Services begun at the July meeting will continue. Ideas for action identified at the meeting will be flushed out and coordination and collaboration will be discussed.

 
Action Alert: Campaign for Safe Transitions
 

Some of you may have already received this Action Alert earlier this week. Please be sure to send letters of support for each bill.

SB 436 (Migden), which expands access to THP+ housing and support services for pregnant and parenting former foster youth, is on the way to the Governor's desk! AB 824 (Chu), which extends THP+ eligibility to age 24, was sent to the Governor on August 29. The Governor has 30 days from enrollment to sign the bills, and he needs to hear from us! Please send a letter of support for each bill to the Governor, and send a copy to the bill's author. Fax numbers are provided on the attached sample letters. Let us know if you sent a letter so that we can track our efforts.

Fostering Art is Still Recruiting
 
Fostering Art is still RECRUITING new students for a second beginning photography class. If you know of any youth who might benefit from a photography class that emphasizes technical skill, artistic voice, and self expression, send them let them know.

The class is four hours one time per week on either Tuesdays or Thursdays.
The Tuesday class will start on September 20th. The second beginner class will be on a Thursday, and its start date will be sometime this fall. The class is located at 934 Brannan Street in San Francisco but is open to youth from any county. Fostering Art pays for/reimburses for all transportation, dinner during class, and associated material costs.

MAPLA Social Justice Trust Fund proposals due September 21st
 
The Oakland Maritime and Aviation (MAPLA) Social Justice Trust Fund is considering new grant proposals at this time. The proposals are due to Gene Johnson of Davillier-Sloan, Inc. on September 21.
