FYA Membership Meeting: Tomorrow

Policy Highlights
 
The Children's Advocacy Institute at the University of San Diego School of Law this week released a report detailing CAI's proposed Transition Guardian Plan which would "replicate as closely as possible the commitment of responsible parents during the transition of their children into independent adulthood.” Emancipated youth would receive a monthly stipend and support services under the plan. Young Adult Parent Support Group

Pivotal Point Youth Services and Beyond Emancipation are presenting a “Young Adult Parent Support Group”. The support group will meet 6 times, two days a week on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:30-5:00pm. The first class will be held on Wednesday, January 24th and the last class will meet on February 9th. There will be a gift card raffle drawing during each class. The class will be held at the following location:

Fred Finch Youth Center

Thanks to the Mental Health Services Act, Fred Finch Youth Center is expanding its Transition Age Youth services in the East Bay. FFYC has three leadership positions currently open or about to open, all working with Transition Aged Youth (ages 18-25): two Program Directors and one Project Director.

FFYC is seeking candidates who have mental health program management experience, particularly with transition-aged youth, who have a CA license, and who are interested in the challenge of starting a new, evidence-based treatment program. Click here for the full job descriptions.

Multicultural Fellowship Program

The San Francisco Foundation has begun recruitment for its Multicultural Fellowship Program to engage more professionals of color in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector. This year they are recruiting for three fellows in the areas of Community Development, Community Health and Environment. For the Community Development fellow they are seeking a self-directed individual and team player with demonstrated interest in nonprofit or public service and knowledge and expertise in community development and anti-poverty strategies. A Master’s degree and background in affordable housing, homeless assistance, and/or workforce development would be ideal.

The National Alliance to End Homelessness Conference in Oakland

The National Alliance to End Homelessness is holding its third national conference aimed specifically at ending homelessness among families with children. We hope you will come to Oakland on February 8-9, 2007 to learn about the most effective practices and to share what’s happening in your community. Together, we are making progress, and we believe that hundreds of people gathering together from around the country to work for a solution will help us move faster and further.
