| FYA Professional Development Training: October 10th |

Please join us for the next FYA Professional Development Training “Compassion Fatigue: Battle Scars, Secondary Trauma, and Wounded Spirits—Take Care of Yourself.” Beverly Kyer will discuss Compassion Fatigue, a syndrome consisting of various symptoms that mirror Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and can develop in helping professionals who work with people experiencing PTSD.
This training will be held on Tuesday, October 10th, from 9:30 to 12:30 at the ILSP Office, 2647 International Blvd., Suite 312, Oakland.

| Emancipated Youth Health Project |
|
| |
| Anika Russell, a medical and graduate student at the Joint Medical Program between UC Berkeley and UCSF, is currently conducting a research project examining the post-emancipation health care experiences and health care access of former foster youth who left foster care in Alameda County. The project will consist of focus groups and individual interviews with emancipated foster youth, ages 16 to 24, and will explore issues related to access to health and mental health care during the transition to adulthood, in the interest of identifying barriers to care if any, and developing strategies for improving health and mental health care access for youth who have left foster care. All youth participants will receive a gift check as compensation for their participation. Health and mental health service providers will also be interviewed to help identify additional issues related to access to care.
