Governor Signs AB 824 & SB 436
 
Thanks in large part to the vigorous advocacy efforts of The Campaign for Safe Transitions, Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law AB 824 & SB 436 on October 7th. AB 824 raises the age of eligibility for THP+ to 24. SB 436 addresses the needs of pregnant and parenting former foster youth in THP+. The Campaign for Safe Transitions will meet in early December to strategize and set goals for the coming year.
 
FYA Brown Bag Lunch for Management: November 10th
 
RSVP by October 19th for the next FYA Brown Bag Lunch for Management Staff, which will focus on the topic of Leadership Skills. The lunch will be held at the ILSP Office, 2647 International Blvd, Suite 312, Oakland, on Thursday, November 10th, 12:00-2:00.

Emancipating Youth Resource Grants
 
Philanthropic Ventures Foundation is offering grants of up to $250 to social workers, court appointed special advocates, and CYC staff to help meet the critical needs of foster care youth as they age out of the system. Examples include funding for college application fees, work clothing, vocational tools, tutoring fees, etc. Click here for more details.

Youth Workshop on Nonviolent Communication
 
On November 2nd, Bay Area Nonviolent Communication ( www.baynvc.org) will hold an evening dedicated to youth during the week long visit that Dr. Marshall Rosenberg will have with BayNVC this year. Dr. Rosenberg is the founder of Nonviolent Communication, lives in Switzerland and travels all over the world on behalf of the Center for Nonviolent Communication (www.cnvc.org), a global organization.
